Merry Wiesner-Hanks is emerita professor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and she is a renowned specialist in the studies of women and gender in the early modern time. She is the editor of the Sixteenth Century Journal. The conversation revolves around her motivation to study history and women and gender in particular, which corresponded with the time in which she had begun her academic studies – the late 1960s and early 1970s. She also explains how her research perspective developed over time, which also assessing her own career path and the various factors that played a role in it. Her major publications include: Women and Gender in Early Modern Europe (4th edition, 2019); Early Modern Europe, 1450–1789 (2022).
