Alexander Schunka is a historian of migration, specialising on the early modern history. He studied history and then also received his PhD at the Ludwig-Maximilian University of München. He completed his habilitation at the University of Stuttgart and he is currently professor at the Friedrich-Meinecke-Institute, Free University of Berlin. The particular situation of the academia in Germany and the transformation it undergoes set the perfect background for this episode. The conversation revolves around personal interests and career choices which Alexander had to face in order to ensure his academic future, and the reasons for choosing this specific path.
