Historians in conversation - Dr. Anu Lahtinen

In the fifth episode of the podcast Historians in Conversation, Michaël Green’s guest is Dr. Anu Lahtinen, Associate Professor at the Department of Philosophy, History and Art Studies, University of Helsinki. Specialising on Medieval and early modern Finnish women and servants, Anu Lahtinen is a very active researcher, who throughout the years was engaged in numerous scholarly projects and published extensively. The conversation in this episode of the podcast discusses her academic beginnings – BA and MA studies at the University of Turku in Finland and her choice of a PhD programme that brought her first to the Netherlands and then to Italy and Germany, and then how she paved her way in the academia. What decisions that have to be taken in order to establish a successful academic career, how to help yourself focus, why is it important to have international experience? Finally, Anu Lahtinen reveals the advice that her mother gave her, an advice that had a direct impact on her success.
