#87 [EN] Why do we need opera in times of crisis? (guest: Ermonela Jaho)
For a long time, I wanted to ask this question to someone who has been at the top of the opera world. The opportunity recently arose when Ermonela Jaho, one of the most outstanding opera singers, announced as the Artist of the Year 2022 by the International Classical Music Award, came to Wrocław. She performed for the first time in Poland during a gala at the National Forum of Music. The tremendous performance of Violetta in Traviata, moving Cio Cio San in Madame Butterfly, or the eye-watering creation of Sister Angelica in Puccini's Triptych - to speak of just some of the roles that Ermonela Jaho sang on the stage of the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House and Paris Opera. Who today needs the emotions that these creations bring? What will be the future of opera in the era of new technologies? What does the singer regret, and what does she dream of? Our conversation is available in two languages.
